Spark your child’s curiosity with our new rigorous, fresh, and fun online offerings for advanced learners starting in January 2025. Some courses are brand new, others are adapted from popular CTY on-campus courses. Whether your bright child loves math, sports, reading, history, or science, we’ve got something for them to dive into and explore.
These new courses connect students with challenging coursework presented in ways you won’t often find in traditional classes, as well as an engaging community of advanced learners. New formats include:
- Challenge courses build community among learners with shared interests by providing a space for exploration and skill development. Each challenge course culminates in an accomplishment such as a capstone project or the completion of a competitive goal.
- Mini courses, taught over 1-3 sessions in dynamic virtual classrooms, let students sample a topic and engage with other advanced learners in a relaxed virtual setting.

Investigate numbers, from the very small to the unimaginably large, and learn how numeric representations help to explain natural phenomena such as time, distance, and temperature.
Numbers: Zero to Infinity
Grades 4-5
Explore probability and statistics, two areas of mathematics that easily transfer from the classroom to the real world."Conduct experiments and learn to make graphs, charts, and tables to display data.
Data and Chance
Grades 5-6
Investigate the essentials of business and finance, including the mathematics of buying and selling; the effects of simple and compound interest on loans, mortgages, and savings; and the role of taxes in personal and government budgets.
The Mathematics of Money

Delve into the mechanics of sports, exploring concepts such as kinematics, dynamics, momentum, energy, and power. You’ll develop a strong understanding of the principles that give star athletes an edge over their competitors.
The Physics of Sports

Participate in five reading challenges by selecting and reading books that meet challenge criteria. Then we’ll meet to discuss our books and recommend them (or not) to our peers. Complete all 5 challenges and earn a limited-edition t-shirt!
CTY Reading Challenge
Grades 6-8
Learn about combinatorial game theory pertaining to games of perfect information, such as Go and chess. We’ll learn mathematical concepts such as disjunctive sum and Grundy numbers and use them to explore winning strategies in games such as Nim, Domineering, and Hackenbush.
